Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you”
Heb 13:5

God had led the children of Israel from the land of Egypt through the wilderness, to the promised land. Along the way, God dissected the Red sea into two to create a path for them to pass. He created water for them to drink in waterless desert, food to eat, and eventually got them to the promised land.

The book of Samuel however records that once the children of Israel were safe and sound in the promised land, they started making interesting demands. One of the demands was that they wanted a King, just like the surrounding nations-a human king that they could see. Samuel’s efforts to remind them that they had a better deal with God as their king fell on deaf ears. So God commanded that they be given a king as par their request.

To make the long story short, things did not turn out the way they had hoped. They suffered under the leadership of some of the kings and it is in hindsight that they discovered how good and wonderful it had been under the leadership of God. The King of kings could provide what the earthly kings could not-the unconditional love and mercy and His strong arm to hold on to for ever.

Our God has promised not to leave us. His hand is always stretched and all we have to do is grab it. He will hold our hand when we are sick, He will hold our hand when our house is on fire, when we lose our job, He will hold us. Let us learn to hold on to His hand. Amen
